For the first time, National Park Service leaders in Washington, D.C., have formally recognized mountain biking as a positive activity, compatible with the values of our National Park system.

Send your idea to IMBA government affairs director Jenn Dice (jenn@imba.com ). Be sure to include complete contact info for you, your local mountain biking club, and as many details as you can (including website links).
IMBA and the NPS will select two projects to work on together in 2005.
Thanks. |
Submit your idea and post your what you think.
Perhaps we can get a porposal together that all of OMBA supports and start a petition. If we could show that we have a huge support group we might gain access.

|
|
I have sent my request to Jenn@imba.com
I believe we would be best suited by getting acces to the North Country National Scenic Trail and Cuyahoga Valley National Park
The Cuyahoga Valley National Park system is huge from what I know if. Someoen from up there please correct me if I'm wrong
and the North Country National Scenic Trail. This trail would be Awesome because it spans 7 states. I would be interested in contacting members of the neighboring states and sending this proposal in as a group.
From my past experience the only way to get things done is to show the most support.
I would encourage everyone to send in there own emails to Jenn@imba.com and for the leaders of OMBA and IMBA state rep to get together and send in a mass petition.
The Quicker this happens the better chance we all will have to get access to and area in Ohio.
Hope to see many responses and Hopefully Jenn@imba.com gets lots of Emails from Ohio.
Later

| I believe the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park is a collection of historical sites rather than a "park" as we know them. |

All,
A couple of notes:
1. Cuyahoga Valley National Park (up here in Cleveland) is the only National Park in Ohio.
2. All other NPS managed sites are "national historic monuments" and other historic sites. They are not parks and have no land that would be used for trails.
3. North Country Trail is a trail network. The trail goes over federal, state, local, and private lands. It's not managed by the National Park Service. For more info: http://www.northcountrytrail.org/
4. IMBA is well aware of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the potential for mountain bike trails there. No need for a petition or anything like that because they know all about it already. Many of us from CAMBA (myself included) have met Jenn and discussed trails in the CVNP. So, while I certainly don't think another email to Jenn would hurt, the CAMBA leadership won't be organizing any petitions just cause it's really not necessary.
If you're interested in this issue, I encourage you to attend next week's CAMBA meeting. I'm very familiar with this issue and I'd be happy to answer your questions. Check the CAMBA website for details on the meeting...they should be release soon.

| As others have said, the National Park Service administers the North Country Trail but they don't own much of the land it uses. |
