Description and Review
The Medina Mountain Bike Trails (aka Reagan Park) are separated into two trail systems: the Huffman/Reagan Park Trail (built by CAMBA and completed in 2006) and the "Original" Reagan Park Trail (built by local Medina mountain bikers over many years). Both sections can be ridden together, but you'll need to follow the directions below to do so. We suggest starting out with the Huffman/Reagan Park Trails and moving up to the "Original" Reagan Park Trail if you feel comfortable with more difficult mountain bike trails.
Please try to remember that both of these trails are also shared with hikers and you might come across a kid or two on the Reagan park trail. Have fun and enjoy!
Huffman/Reagan Park Trails (built by CAMBA):
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Trail Length: about 2.5 miles
Location: The City of Medina’s Huffman Soccer fields are located on Route 3 (Weymouth Road) between Granger and Huffman roads. The trailhead is behind the picnic pavilion at the Huffman Soccer fields.
Parking: Park at the Huffman soccer field entrance by the picnic pavilion. There is a bathroom to change in if needed.
Finding the trailhead: Follow the gravel path back approximately 100 yards or until you see the trail on the right hand side ( there will soon be a sign ).
Trail Description: The trail is about 2.5 miles long with varying terrain. It starts out with a serpentine bridge about 30-ft long and then makes a left into some pine trees. once left, you will be on the trail for the duration of your ride. There is no getting off of it or cutting it short. It winds back and forth with moderate elevation changes. It is a contour trail so it seams like you are either climbing or descending the entire ride. There are six bridges with the longest being 34-ft and one boulder field that is about 15-ft long and a couple different log crossings. Over all it is a very scenic trail. The faster you go the more fun it is and chances are good that you will see deer, turkey, tortoises and even buzzards so be nice and share the trail. When you come back out on to the path take a right and follow the gravel path around by the river and back to the parking lot. It will add about .75 miles in length to your ride. Finish here or and get you ready to head over to the other trail in Reagan Park.
River Trail (built by CAMBA):
Difficulty Level: Advanced
Trail Length: roughly 2.6 miles including the annex trail.
The River trail was opened in July of 2008. It can be ridden in both directions. If you look at the trail map you will see the annex trail will dump you directly onto the river trail. The general trail flow is when you go into the trail you cross a bridge. At the bridge you turn right so you are going counter clockwise. If you decide to go in reverse (which is supported!) please be careful of other riders)
The annex trail is part of the river trail system. You will start from the connector trail and go to the trail crossroad. At the trail crossroad you turn right onto the annex trail which will take you up to an orange cone and a trail marker which will then take you parallel to Reagan Parkway and then onto the river trail. When you get done with the river trail and you are back at the orange cone, turn RIGHT and follow the second half of the annex trail.
"Old" Reagan Park Trails (not built by CAMBA):
Difficulty Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Trail Length: about 2.55 miles
Directions: Reagan Park is located off East Reagan Parkway in Medina. It is 1/2 mile North of Route 3 (Weymouth Road).
Finding the trailhead: From the intersection of Route 3 (Weymouth Road) and Reagan Parkway head west about a 1/4 mile to the Reagan Park entrance and make a left. As you are entering the park, you will go through a paved whoop section on the road to slow people down. once past that, you will stay to your left and proceed to the lower parking lot. You can park anywhere in that lower parking lot. If you look to the south while in the parking lot, you will see an opening in the woods (that's the trail head). Take a left on to the trail.
Trail Description: This trail has been around for a long time and is made up of many individual trail sections, so it can be a bit confusing. There are signs to follow once on the trail, so go slow and find your flow on the first lap. This trail is a blast once you know it. It's very tight in spots but it also has a lot of fast flowing sections. The difficulty rating is intermediate-advanced not because it's scary and stupid but because there's a number of slow speed technical logs and stunts to navigate.
Getting from the Huffman/Reagan Park trail to the “Original” Reagan Park trail:
Now that you just finished up the lap at Huffman, go try your technical skills over at the “Original” Reagan Park trail!
Note: This route requires you to travel on Route 3 for a short distance and cross Reagan Parkway. Be aware that these roads are heavily traveled, so use common sense when dealing with traffic.
Directions: From the Huffman trail parking lot head out to the road and take a right on to Route 3 (Weymouth Road). There is about an 8-ft berm to ride on up to the traffic light at the corner of Rt 3 and Reagan Parkway. Take a right onto Reagan Parkway and head up to the crest of the hill (about 1/8 of a mile from the light). You will see an entrance (a paved path) on the left hand side. BE CAREFUL when crossing the street and follow the paved path. on the paved path, you will see the trail cross the paved path you are on. Go left and follow the trail.
